How do you get rid of moss on your roof?  Does vinegar kill moss on roofs? What causes black streaks on roof shingles? – These are the questions that almost every homeowner is being bombarded by from time to time.  While it’s always possible to follow save-your-money-and-do-it-yourself approach,  a lot of South Africans would be happy to hire someone to solve this issue once and for all.

Getting Started

Over 30% of South Africans prefer houses over flats. This number is falling drastically year by year, but there always will be people who prefer enjoying fresh air and silence over hustle and bustle of a big city.  Since every house needs a roof, every homeowner is your prospective customer.

The great thing for you (and the ugly one for your customers) is that roof cleaning is like dental treatment.  Even if one takes proper care of their roof and uses the best services and materials to waterproof the root, it still will require cleaning every three to five years.

Services

There are two different, separate services you can offer:

  • roof cleaning;
  • roof waterproofing.”

It’s quite obvious that if you receive a roof cleaning order, you can also offer waterproofing services if the roof is not protected properly.

While roof waterproofing is a one-time project, roof cleaning is needed regularly. Thus, you can build a list of regular customers.

Equipment needed

There are a lot of different techniques, but the most popular ones are low- and high-pressure roof cleaning. They require some special equipment like The Mosmatic Roof Cleaner DR-520. It is worth around R22 thousand and can be ordered from Amazon.

Waterproofing is a different animal.  You will need a gas hydraulic spray system or a heated spray system.

In addition, in both cases, you will need a reliable vehicle.
